Mike Atkins is an accomplished musician who has been singing and playing the piano since a very young 6 months old, writing songs since age thirteen, and performing on stage for just as long. His songs are described as musical comfort food for the soul, being equal parts Soul/Rock/Blues/Gospel.
Performing has been a passion since Mike began learning how to play. As soon as he was old enough he started performing in talent shows, in school choirs, and playing with bands in McAllen, TX where he spent his formative years.
After a family move to San Antonio he started performing solo on the river walk and playing with various bands.
He moved to Houston where he would play with a 7 piece reggae band as well as learn the ins and outs of the dueling piano show. Eventually moving on to other musical opportunities he spent many years playing church music and learning recording studio production.
Mike landed a touring gig with Christian comedian Chonda Pierce which then prompted a move to Nashville, TN where he would play with artists such as Phil Keaggy, Danny Chambers, and Tim Williams (Son of county legend Don Williams).
In 2004 he went back into the field of Dueling Pianos touring all over the US, and eventually doing a stint in Switzerland. His Dueling Piano prompted a move to Tacoma, WA where he was a Music Director for 2 years.
In 2008 Mike auditioned for and accepted a position at Pete’s Dueling Pianos in Austin, TX and has been a resident player ever since.
Playing live original music shows is something that interests Mike very much, especially given the current climate of the Texas Music Scene which is exploding like never before.
You can always catch Mike live at Pete’s Dueling Pianos in Austin, TX.
